Does your hair also look like straw from time to time? Dry, dull, unruly… The heat styling tools only make it worse? It’s time to take action! My hair’s been in perfect shape since I reached for heat protectant sprays. A good thermal protection product makes sure the hair is safe plus adds smoothness and manageability, nourishing the hair at the same time. I want to tell you about my favourites today. Read on!

Benefits of heat protectant sprays for hair

Did you know that such a simple-looking spray brings many benefits for our hair? Let me round them up before reviewing the best products.

  1. First and foremost, a heat protectant spray shields against the damaging effect of heat (dryer, curling wand, flat-iron, but also the scorching sun – must-have for summer!).
  2. It is a brilliant hair primer and helps keep the hairstyle perfect all day.
  3. It tames the unruliest strands, detangles, and smooths the hair so you don’t look like Bellatrix Lestrange 🙂
  4. It delivers glossiness and bounce, plus prevents damage.
  5. The best heat protectants have a nourishing and conditioning effect!

What’s the best heat protectant spray called?

Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray

My review of Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray

Affordable, smells like heaven, cost-effective, and, most importantly, fulfils its role brilliantly! Whether I put it in dry or wet hair, it’s great. I love its scent – smells like prestigious perfume, very nice, makes me feel better right off.

Not only does it protect the hair but also works as a superb conditioner thanks to added silk proteins – one of the most beneficial ingredients for hair. Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray tames the unruly hair, smooths it and boosts shine without weighing it down or causing sticky strands after a few hours from application (many thermal sprays – mostly the ones with oils – do that). I love it because it leaves my strands manageable and brushable and there’s no white residue that many hair sprays and styling primers leave. Well, Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray is simply the best!

Ouai Heat Protection Spray

Rating: ★★★★

My review of Ouai Heat Protection Spray

I should mention a big flaw first: Ouai’s spray is costly and is used up quickly (it has an aerosol nozzle). It used to be one of my top choices but the steep price always was hurtful – even more so because the applicator tends to clog and I often couldn’t get the product out of the bottle though there was still lots left! I think the brand should think of improving that.

Let’s move on to the positives. Ouai Heat Protection Spray was my favourite because it’s a great conditioning product and abounds in natural protective oils and beneficial botanical extracts: castor oil, jojoba oil, oak bark extract and Barbary fig extract, among others. It strongly nourishes and protects from heat and UV rays. It’s perfect for my dry hair, but may not be so great on heavy hair which tends to get greasy.

Balmain Thermal Protection Spray

Rating: ★★★★

My review of Balmain Thermal Protection Spray

I’m sure all haircare buffs know Balmain – good products and an excellent heat protectant spray with great ingredients. It’s amazing on my dry hair because it’s packed with oils and shields against the damaging effect of heat and sunlight. Balmain Thermal Protection Spray is the very product which helped me revive my tresses in the winter when dry indoor air causes extreme dryness. It also stops static flyaways. Too bad it’s costly and rarely cut-price. Still, it’s recommendable.

Moroccanoil Color Complete Spray

Rating: ★★★

My review of Moroccanoil Color Complete Spray

I mostly like it for the hydrating and smoothing effect on my strands. Natural oils are the only protective substances in the formula and as you see, the above products are more effective at securing the hair from thermal damage. However, I had to add Moroccanoil Color Complete Spray to my round-up because it’s brilliant for moisturising and taming unruly hair, and used regularly, it helps keep hair colour from getting dull and maintains its intensity. The formula is rich in argan oil, sunflower oil and castor oil. Unfortunately, it is expensive…

That was the list of my favourites – the most effective heat protectants for hair. Which one caught your eye?
